Remy and Nexy
Dear Diary,
Today has been quite eventful, filled with mysterious encounters and unsettling revelations. As I reflect on the day’s events, I can’t help but feel a sense of unease lingering in the air.
As the evening approached, my thoughts turned to Barrel, who had been deeply troubled the previous night. Concerned for his well-being, I decided to pay him a visit at his hut. However, upon my arrival, I discovered that he was nowhere to be found. Determined to locate him, I searched every corner of the area until I heard faint sneezing noises emanating from beneath the hut.
Curiosity piqued, I ventured downstairs into the dimly lit basement where I found Barrel sitting alone, his gaze fixed upon a wooden suitcase. Startled by my presence, he recoiled slightly before revealing his distress to me. Tears streamed down his face as he recounted the events of the previous night, wherein several villagers from his village had been unjustly arrested under suspicion of collusion with Monta Morra.
Feeling helpless, Barrel pleaded with me to intervene on behalf of his fellow villagers, hoping that my status as a royal might afford them some protection. Though uncertain of what assistance I could offer, I promised to speak with my father about the matter, hoping to ease Barrel’s burden, if only momentarily.
Returning to my room at Terravale Hall, I sought solace in the familiar surroundings, only to discover that the wand I had hidden beneath my drawer was missing. Panic surged through me as I frantically searched for it, but to no avail. The realization that it had disappeared from my room, seemingly without explanation, left me feeling vulnerable and exposed.
Haunted by a sense of unease, I recalled the words of a wise maa who had once told me that “sometimes danger lurked unseen, its presence only felt rather than seen”. With this in mind, I resolved to proceed with caution, closing the windows of my room before setting out for the Lore’s main library, where Albert was known to frequent.
As I made my way through the empty corridors, a palpable sense of foreboding weighed heavily upon me, intensifying with each step I took. Though I encountered no one along the way, the feeling of being watched persisted, casting a shadow over my otherwise solitary journey.
As I entered the library, I was greeted by two Librisylphs, ethereal beings that I had only heard of in stories. These tiny creatures, with their delicate wings and ghostly presence, perched themselves upon my shoulders, introducing themselves as Nexy and Remy. To my surprise, they seemed to know my name, their whispery voices barely audible to anyone but me.
Intrigued by their presence, I listened intently as they asked if I was aware of someone watching over me. Their question sent a shiver down my spine, confirming the feeling I had been experiencing lately — that of being observed, even when no one else seemed to be around. Curious, I inquired further, asking whom they had seen. Remy mentioned a student named Peter Skotmyr from Umbralith Crypt, claiming that he had been lurking behind trees in the yard before concealing himself behind a nearby cabinet.
Determined to uncover the truth, I followed Remy’s guidance and approached the cabinet, my heart pounding with apprehension. To my surprise, Peter was indeed hiding there, his presence confirming my suspicions. Confronting him, I demanded an explanation for his behavior, questioning whether he had been spying on me. However, he denied any wrongdoing, hastily grabbing a book from the shelf before making a swift exit.
As I sat alone in the library, pondering the strange events of the day, I found myself drawn into a conversation with Nexy and Remy, the mischievous Librisylphs who had perched themselves upon my shoulders. Despite their playful banter, they revealed something intriguing about the night Albert was injured in the library.
Curious to know more, I asked Nexy and Remy if they had witnessed what had happened that fateful night. Their response was unexpected, as they claimed to have been engaged in their own petty squabble over a favorite book. However, amidst their playful argument, they admitted that they had seen nothing unusual at the library when Albert was injured. It seemed as though Albert’s injuries remained shrouded in mystery, with no clear explanation as to how they had occurred.
Their revelation only deepened my curiosity, prompting me to inquire about others who had asked similar questions. According to Remy, several individuals, including Headmistress Morgana, Professor Saga, Lilith, and even Ms. Tailholme, had expressed concern about Albert. The mention of Ms. Tailholme’s concern for Albert, coupled with Professor Saga’s inquiries, left me feeling unsettled. What connection did they have to Albert’s injuries, and why were they so interested in his well-being?
As I left the library and made my way towards Terravale Hall, I couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched. Despite rationalizing that Peter may have been spying on me in the yard and the library, I couldn’t ignore the sense of unease that lingered within me. The thought of someone observing me in my own room, where only students from my chamber were permitted to enter, and Peter belongs to different chamber, sent a chill down my spine.
As I lay down to rest, the events of the day replayed in my mind, fueling my curiosity and driving me ever closer to the heart of the mysteries that surrounded me.
Yours in curiosity,
Zoe
